We are the five Japanese civic organizations conducting unceasing campaigns in the hope of realizing world peace, preserving the 1947 Japanese Constitution, and making known our objections to any kind of war.
You are now planning to attack Iraq using armed force, while numerous citizensユ voices are being raised, wishing for peace in the world. Whatever may be the reasons for using armed force, we are against the use of armed force against Iraq since this will undermine peoplesユ lives and drive them to their deaths; it will also produce new hatred, and subsequently lead the world to the chain phenomenon of wars for revenge; and consequently people-in-the-worldユs trust toward the United States will be lost. In addition, new anxieties, as a result of the use of weapons against Iraq, are certain to bring shadows to the world economy, and will result in confusion and doubts in the world.
This sort of situation will not only be the cause of great unhappiness for both Iraq and the United States, but will also tend to deprive all human beings of any sense of hope.
President Mr. Bush of the United States of America, it is high time that you listened to world opinion. We strongly request that you make a wise decision, avoiding war against Iraq and achieving a peaceful solution for the sake of all mankind.
